Roland Abreu & The Cuban Latin Jazz is an international band led by musician Roland Abreu – a Cuban-born double bassist who made his way to Wrocław, where he graduated from the Academy of Music.
In addition to the leader, the core of the ensemble consists of:
Taras Bakovskyi – Ukrainian saxophonist, student of Piotr Baron; he played at the Ukrainian festivals Odessa Jazz and Muzyczne Dialogi;
Paweł Kukuła – pianist, student in Kuba Stankiewicz’s class at the Academy of Music in Wrocław;
Dominik Jaske – a wunderkind of drums.
The young artists are first of all outstanding instrumentalists, but also colourful stage personalities. Their music is a dance fusion of Cuban and jazz music. There is also no shortage of sets combining jazz, fusion and Latin music here. The rhythmic trance is accompanied by fiery improvisations dressed in the band’s highly original compositions and arrangements.
They have won the Złoty Krokus Grand Prix award, got to the 2nd place at the Jazz nad Odrą 2018 jazz festival and Tarnów Jazz Contest, and to the 3rd place at Blue Note Poznań Competition. In 2018, they were nominated for the Wrocławska Nagroda Kulturalna Warto award.
They have already recorded two albums: Juntos Por Siempre, which sold out almost instantly. The second album Roots was released in February 2020 and demonstrates the tremendous growth and deep musical awareness of these talented artists.
