Cały ten Jazz” – photographs by Andrzej Dąbrowski and Wojciech Druszcz

Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe, Piłsudskiego 64A

Opening: 20.04.2024, 5:00 p.m.

Exhibition: 21.04 – 05.05.2024, during DCF opening hours (exhibition takes place on the ground floor and second floor)

“Cały ten Jazz” is a presentation of 60 photographs from 1956-2000 by two outstanding photographers: Andrzej Dąbrowski and Wojciech Druszcz, documenting the most important jazz music festival events in Poland and their outstanding participants, musicians of international renown. This is a unique opportunity to get to know a trend in photography which is extremely rarely presented at Polish exhibitions. The authors of the photographs differ in the way they frame and express their work. Andrzej Dąbrowski – musician, jazz drummer and singer known to a wide audience – treats his photographed colleagues as a medium familiar to him and allows himself to capture private moments, the time spent together. Wojciech Druszcz – photojournalist, professional photographer and jazz music enthusiast – focuses his attention and directs his lens to very expressive concert scenes. This way he shows to the viewer how strong and extremely emotional are the experiences of the musicians playing.

The opening will feature a screening of short films from the archives of the National Film Institute in Warsaw about the origins of jazz music and its influence on the culture of the 1960s and 1970s in Poland, as well as a meeting with Andrzej Winiszewski and a concert by Kamil Abt Kwartet from Wrocław.

The exhibition is organised by Fundacja Polskiej Sztuki Emigracyjnej 1939-1989 from Warsaw in cooperation with the ZAiKS Society. The partners of the event are: Culture Zone Wrocław and Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe in Wrocław

Wojtek Siwek has been associated with Jazz nad Odrą since the first edition of the festiwal. Remembered in the history of Wrocław as a cultural animator with his whole heart. The festival under his baton gained international fame by hosting musicians from the highest level in the world. He stayed with it (on the Artistic Council) until the last moments of his life, and co-creating the 60th edition was his great dream, so he cannot be missing there, even in this symbolic form.
