Christian Scott as Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, Jeremy Pelt with a new album première and a constellation of Polish musicians with special projects.
From 14 to 18 September one of the oldest jazz festivals in Poland will be hosted at the Capitol Music Theatre and Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant in Wrocław. This will be the first edition of the festival with Piotr Wojtasik as its artistic director. “The idea behind the festival’s line-up is to ensure that all concerts are first class. All the artists have been carefully selected so top-class music is guaranteed” – Wojtasik summarizes the annual line-up.
The line-up consists of both Polish and foreign musicians. One of the artists to appear in Wrocław is Jeremy Pelt – one of the most recognisable young trumpeters in the world of jazz. His concert will be simultaneously a Polish première of his recent record “Jeremy Pelt – Soundtrack”. Also, we will certainly hear the latest compositions of Immanuel Wilkins, a talented saxophonist who has recently released his sophomore album The 7th Hand. We will also witness the concert of Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah – formally known as Christian Scott – a sound architect, trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and designer of innovative technologies and musical instruments. Many Polish artists will focus on specific projects. Artur Dutkiewicz Trio will present their album COMETS SING, Michał Barański will play MANSOVIAN MANTRA, and Bartosz Pernal Sextet will introduce the Into the Wild repertoire. The final concert will feature Piotr Wojtasik Quintet with Anna Maria Jopek as a special guest. These are only a few proposals from the five-day programme filled with the best jazz music ever.
Young musicians will compete again in the Jazz Individuality Contest. The prestigious title of winner opens up subsequent opportunities, promotes new promising stars of Polish jazz, and puts them in the spotlight of music journalists. The Grand Prix is a prize of 25 thousand zloty founded by the Mayor of Wrocław, and the Rybotrąbka trophy, but every year new prizes are awarded by music associations, private companies, and even members of the jury. This year, the lucky eight finalists are: Boogie Skiedrzyński, Brzeziński Quartet, Horntet, Katarzyna Osterczy, Krzysztof Baranowski Trio, Michał Ciesielski, Ola Przewoźniak Quintet and Superminimalism. Young musicians will be evaluated by a jury composed of: Darek Oleszkiewicz, Jeremy Pelt and Viktor Tóth.
In addition, traditional jam sessions at the festival club Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant will heat up the vibe on a daily basis.
The event is financed from the grant awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage under the Culture Promotion Fund’s “Music” programme of the National Institute of Music and Dance.
