Here is the list of finalists for the 2024 Wojtek Siwek Jazz Individuality Contest

This year, as many as seven bands will compete for the Grand Prix of the competition, and the winner will be announced on the first day of the Jazz nad Odra festival.

The finalists of the 2024 Wojtek Siwek Jazz Individuality Contest will soon present their skills in front of a festival audience. On the 23rd of April at Impart Centrum, young musicians will also be judged by a jury consisting of: Darek Oleszkiewicz, Piotr Wojtasik and Eddie Henderson. The Grand Prix winner will receive, among other awards, PLN 25 000 funded by the Mayor of Wrocław and a Rybotrąbka statuette.

This year, as many as seven bands will compete in the final. Cyryl Lewczuk Quartet is a fresh jazz quartet consisting of young musicians – instrumentalists currently studying at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. The band presents mainly original compositions and arrangements.  Funky Bomba Trio Collective Project, i.e. Mateusz Tomiak, Kosma Góra and Kacper Kaczyński propose mathematical, progressive, modernist jazz fusion with elements of rock and hip hop. Karolina Błachnia Quartet performs original, jazz and improvised music.  In her music, she values freedom, openness and a sense of community, and in her work she shares her thoughts on the world around her.

Mateusz Kaszuba Trio presents a modern approach to  the band interaction – the musicians believe that playing in the band should be based first and foremost on listening to and inspiring each other on stage, resulting in the unique sound of each trio concert. Maciej Prokopowicz Quartet is composed of students from the Academy of Music in Katowice. The band focuses on combining melodiousness and pastel colours with heavier sounds, which are constantly interlaced with each other. Sylwester Bugajak Quintet is a newly formed band established in February this year. Its members met at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. The musicians perform mainly original compositions and the leader’s arrangements. Szymon Paciora Quartet focuses on acoustic music oscillating around European jazz. The band leader’s enigmatic compositions are inspired by Scandinavian and ethnic music as well as New York modern jazz.

The winners will be announced on the 23rd of April at a gala event that will officially open the six-day celebration of jazz in Wrocław. Tickets for the festival are available at: www.jazznadodra.pl
