Aga Derlak Trio is the winner of the Phonographic Academy’s Fryderyk 2016 Award for Jazz: Phonographic Debut of the Year. The works by Aga Derlak mostly feature unabashed expression and unstoppable freedom that puts her music onto new, winding paths through a story of her life, inspired by jazz, Latin American folklore, classical music; the inspirations that sometimes excellently clash and sometimes complement one another. And moving between what is right and what is not, between the literal and the figurative, the stated and the understated, is a dance she invites us to join. Her artistic work is brave, innovative, unique and absolutely sincere in searching for a broader sense and meaning in music. Aga Derlak is a piano player, composer and educator. She graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston and from the Academy of Music in Katowice; She was trained by Michał Tokaj, Paweł Tomaszewski and Danilo Perez – a pianist from Wayne Shorer’ quartet. She has given concerts around the world (in Poland, the USA, Mexico, Panama, the United Kingdom, Spain, Greece, Germany, Turkey, Serbia, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Italy). For six months she was a teacher at the Danilo Perez Foundation in Panama, where she inspired her students to build courage in making use of their artistic freedom. She collaborated with Andree Hayward, Louciana Souza, Claudio Ragazzi, Patricia Zarate, PJ Anderson, Omar Diaz, Carlos Agrazal, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jerzy Małek, Grzech Piotrowski, Andrzej Więs, Sabina Meck, Łukasz Żyta, and many other artists.
