The axis of the repertoire is Into the Wild, a suite written by Bartosz Pernal. It was inspired by the novel Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer and by the same-titled film directed by Sean Penn. This very interesting and powerful literary story made the leader of the ensemble create compositions that exhibited the sound of the jazz sextet without a harmonic instrument. The reviews of Into the Wild appreciated the sophisticated consonance, inventiveness of musicians in their solo improvised parts, and music arrangement.
Bartosz Pernal – trombonist, composer and arranger. Graduated from the jazz trombone class at the Wrocław Academy of Music, and from jazz composition and arrangement studies at the Academy of Music in Katowice. Recently he has given concerts with many Polish jazz musicians such as Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Piotr Wojtasik, Maciej Sikała and Piotr Baron.
Bartosz Pernal has won many Polish and international jazz competitions: the Grand Prix at the International Getxo Jazz Festival, the Grand Prix at the 4th Tarnów International Jazz Contest, the Best Ensemble award at the 2nd International Jazz Competition w Bucharest, as well as several individual and group awards at: Jazz nad Odrą Festival, Jazz Juniors Festival, “Krokus” Jazz Festiwal, Pomeranian Jazz Autumn Festival, the competition organised by “Sax Club” in Gdynia, and “Novum” Jazz Festiwal.
He conducts original projects: Bartosz Pernal Orchestra, with whom he performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2022, Pernal Sextet, and Bartosz Pernal Quartet.
