New chapter of the Jazz on the Odra Festival

In just a little over a month, we are going to hold the 55th edition of the great celebration of jazz music in Wrocław. Thanks to the acquisition of a naming rights sponsor, this year’s edition will be held under a new name: Santander Jazz on the Odra Festival.

The 55th edition of the festival will not only confirm the high artistic level of the event, which was crowned the best jazz festival in Poland by readers of the Jazz Forum magazine, but also — first and foremost — a meeting with the most interesting contemporary jazz musicians in Poland. “We decided to start working with Santander Bank Polska due to our shared values — supporting young talents and promotion of music. We both share a passion that resulted in carrying out this year’s edition of one of the oldest and most prestigious music competitions — the Jazz Personality Contest”, said Krzysztof Maj, General Director of the Wrocław Culture Zone.

“For many years now, Santander Bank Polska has been associated with culture and its various aspects. Since 2015, we have been running Santander Orchestra — our educational project which connects Polish musical talents with outstanding artists from all over the world. We believe that everyone should get a chance. Playing on one stage with musicians such as Leszek Możdżer during this year’s festival will be one of such opportunities for young artists”, said Katarzyna Meissner, head of Sponsoring and Relation Projects Office at Santander Bank Polska.

This is the fifth edition of the festival curated by Leszek Możdżer, who makes sure that each subsequent edition of the festival features not only world-famous musicians, but also special projects. The line-up of this year’s edition of the festival includes Jazzmeia Horn, Keyon Harrold, Kandace Springs, Tia Fuller, Sławek Jaskułke with “Komeda Recomposed” and Kuba Więcek and Adam Bałdych (both with the premiere songs). “Every year we receive a lot of offers and we look at them with great attention, but this year’s programme comprises performances by artists, whose concerts on the Odra River we – together with the Jazz Council – have dreamed about”, said Leszek Możdżer, the festival’s artistic director about the festival’s programme during a press conference.

Once again, the festival will be accompanied by an outdoor zone, but this time it will be more extensive than before. The jazz picnic in front of Impart, which was opened for wider audience and enjoyed great popularity last year, will be open throughout the entire festival. The accompanying events will also include meetings with the legendary saxophonist Przemek Dyakowski and Tomasz Lach — writer and foster son of Krzysztof Komeda, as well as a jazz poster exhibition and the first edition of Marek Karewicz photography competition.

You can purchase your tickets at www.jazznadodra.pl, www.strefakultury.pl, www.eventim.pl, at the Impart ticket office (Mazowiecka 17) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Barbara ticket office (Świdnicka 8b) from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., as well as at Empik and Media Markt stores.
