David Dorůžka, Piotr Wyleżoł and Jeff Ballard met for the first time in this Trio convention in the spring of 2021 – as a Special Project, at the invitation of the Brno Jazz Festival. The musicians were driven by the desire to explore and discover new sound possibilities resulting from the stylistic diversity of contemporary jazz, and non-standard instrumental composition lacking the traditional bass. With this in mind, all members of the Trio wrote music especially for this line-up.
The premiere concert recorded by Czech TV took place during the aforementioned Brno Jazz Festival. The unique understanding which arose between the musicians resulted in a spontaneous decision to immediately enter a studio the very next morning, resulting in the album “Andromeda’s Mystery” created during a single 6-hour recording session in the “Na Orli” studio in Brno. Due to the extremely short recording time, it has an atmosphere of a “live” concert, despite the fact that it is a studio album.
The sound of the band’s music is a fusion of old and new. Apart from the acoustic piano, they use analogue electronic instruments, the strength of the simplicity of the melody based on almost rock-like energy, and the intimate finesse cultivating the tradition – the very best standards of acoustic jazz. The whole creates a unique synthesis of sounds and moods which characterises today’s world.
The first tour promoting the Trio’s album consisted of concerts played in Brno (Brno Jazz Fest), Prague, Budapest and Bratislava.
