ABOUT FESTIVAL

cropped-logo2.pngJazz nad Odrą Festival is one of the oldest jazz festivals in Poland, it has been organized since 1964 and it has become essential for Polish music scene. Every spring we present the most interesting jazz acts as well as jazz events from all around the world including almost every jazz subgenre.

51st edition brought quite a few changes. First of all, for the very first, we appointed Leszek Możdżer, an eminent Polish jazzman, as an artistic director.

The Jazz Personality contest, since the very beginning, has been an important element and a hallmark of the festival. The contest brought to us such prominent musicians as: Ewa Bem, Włodzimierz Nahorny, Zbigniew Seifert, Krzesimir Dębski, Jarosław Śmietana, Janusz Strobel, Piotr Baron, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Tomasz Szukalski or Andrzej Zaucha.

The festival featured many European and worldwide jazz stars including: Pat Metheny, Paco deLucia, Al diMeola, Kenny Garret, Dave Holland, Tooth Thielemans, Diana Krall, David Sanborn, Ron Carter, Lizz Wright, Patricia Barber. Every year we invite young American musicians, winners of DownBeat magazine raising stars poll. Our festival featured: The Bad Plus, Jason Moran, Vijar Iyer, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Christian Scott, Lionel Lueke.

While organizing the festival, we pay much attention to design. Our posters are designed by well-known Polish artists: Jan Sawka, Eugeniusz Get Stankiewicz, Rosław Szaybo and Rafał Olbiński. Since many years festival poster is selected in the contest organized by Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Every student of the academy can submit the project and the best becomes a posters of Jazz nad Odrą festival.
